Join Post-Tribune Columnist Phil Potempa paired with NWI Times Features Editor Crista Zivanovic for this one afternoon only event! Love Letters is the timeless play by A.R. Gurney and ranks as a unique and imaginative theatre piece which, in the words of the author, "needs no theatre, no lengthy rehearsal, no special set, no memorization of lines, and no commitment from its two actors beyond the night of performance." The piece is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.

Phil PhotoPhilip Potempa appeared in Love Letters as Andrew Makespeace III last year opposite romance and mystery authoress Kate Collins at Dunes Summer Theatre in Michigan City. He began covering theater in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois for The South Bend Tribune in 1992, before joining The Times of Northwest Indiana and Illinois in 1995 where he worked for two decades as a features writer and daily entertainment newspaper columnist. Now, his Of Notoriety entertainment column and his weekly From the Farm recipe column and other feature stories appear in The Post-Tribune and The Chicago Tribune’s newspaper chain as well as at He is author of three published books chronicling stories, interviews, recipes and memories from his personal and professional experiences. His third book, “Further From the Farm” (2010 Pediment Press) continued the chronicle of his journalism journey and features favorite celebrated stories from his interviews. He is an adjunct instructor in communication at both Valparaiso University and Purdue University Northwest. When not lecturing in a classroom or in a theater seat, Philip divides his time between his family’s farm in Northwest Indiana and his home in Chicago. Theatre at the Center’s stage is also his home for his popular From the Farm Cooking Shows for kitchen fun and audience surprises!
