Mary Kay Kowalke

Business Manager

Mary Kay Kowalke has worked at Theatre at the Center since 2001 as a department assistant, payroll assistant and now her current title as business manager. She attended Calumet College of St. Joseph and Purdue University, and has held a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification credential. She has worked with a variety of companies in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana area in payroll, compensation and benefits, administration and business departments.

She first worked as a payroll accountant in 1986 for LaSalle Partners, Inc., processing multi-state weekly and biweekly payrolls for 300 employees. In 1988, she became the payroll coordinator of Carpetland USA, Inc. where she did payroll processing for 500 employees, as well as accounts payable. In 1990, she worked for Davis Temporaries as a compensation and benefits assistant/secretarial position, providing secretarial support to the supervisors and managers for a two-year assignment for ArcelorMittal, formerly known as Inland Steel Company. In 1992, she was hired as the payroll coordinator with Community Hospital until she left in 2000 to work as payroll manager at the Art Institute of Chicago.

In 2001, Mary Kay was hired to return as the Payroll Coordinator for Theatre at the Center. Since then, her title has changed from Department Assistant, Department/Payroll Assistant, to her current job title as business manager of TATC.
